Episode 27
Country Life with MJ Clery
Friday, 7 July 2023 - 43 minutes
On this weeks programme MJ chats to Eddie Burgess from Teagasc about the EPA report on water quality. While nothing has been set in stone yet it seems that our Nitrate Derogation will fall from 250kg to 220kg next year. This drop will have a huge impact on the viability of family farms and will have little or no impact on water quality. It's another area where agriculture is been used as the whipping boy for climate change. Pat O Toole from the Irish Farmers Journal recently visited the USA with a group of farmers from Ireland and he speaks about meeting the most powerful person in global agriculture US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Mervyn Auchmuty chats about the BASE farming group. BASE stands for Biodiversity Agriculture Soil and Environment and their concepts include min till and mob grazing. Paddy Donnoly speaks about the upcoming Mullingar Show.
