The Suckler Beef Welfare Scheme is discussed on the programme this week as MJ speaks with Hugh Farrell from the ICSA. Farmers are unhappy with the IBR requirement which will require a blood sample to be taken from animals to satisfy a term of the scheme. Farmers are still waiting on an update on TAMS applications from earlier this year. A Teagasc event this week in Kildalton College in Co. Kilkenny promises to shed some light on TAMS as well as a number of other areas topical in agriculture. Forestry, Solar and Organics will also be spoken about on the day. Francie Gorman from Co. Laois officially launches his IFA presidential bid this week and he speaks about the biggest challenges facing Irish agriculture at the moment. The Clonaslee Show takes place this week and Pat Carroll speaks about the huge commmunity effort that goes into organising something like this. A new category sees a prize fund of €1500 on offer for the Best Heifer or Bullock of any age which has generated huge interest both locally and further afield. The North East Texel Club has a sale on this week in Carnaross Mart. David Craig speaks about what's on offer and how the texel breed originally made its way to these shores.
