From The Newsroom To The Olympics

The Big Story

Thursday, 17 July 2025 - 31 minutes

On the Big Story, we meet Geraldine Grennan, a journalist whose career has taken her from the Sunday Tribune newsroom to bartending in New York and back home to the midlands.

Her life also took an unexpected turn when her daughter Grainne Walsh took up boxing.

The mum of four says she nearly died when Grainne first told her she wanted to fight but a few years later, she found herself in Paris, cheering on her daughter as she stepped into the ring at the Olympic Games.

Away from the boxing ring, Geraldine talks about her love of music — from the Eagles to Broadway — her years singing with the Tullamore Gospel Choir, her passion for travel and the arts and how a teacher she met at primary school helped spark that creativity.
