Young Midlands Woman Fundraising For Life-Saving Surgery
The Big Story
Thursday, 11 September 2025 - 13 minutes
A Midlands woman is fundraising so she can undergo surgery for a life-threatening condition.
Offaly's Abi Markey suffers from Amelogenesis Imperfecta, which means she has no enamel on her teeth and is in constant pain.
After years of failed treatments, she had her remaining teeth removed in 2023, and now faces the collapse of her jawbone without urgent specialist surgery.
A CT scan revealed her upper jawbone is dangerously thin, and only Zygomatic implants anchored in the cheekbone can save her.
This procedure is unavailable through the HSE in Ireland, and the family is seeking treatment in Germany.
Her mum, Sarah Finane, has set up a Go Fund Me page to help keep Abi smiling.
Abi and Sarah have been speaking with Will Faulkner on the Midlands Today show.
