Athlone’s Marion Carroll, who was in her late 30s, was wheelchair bound, incontinent and almost blind when she visited the shrine in 1989.

She said that after she attended the ‘Anointing of the Sick’ in the Basilica, she was cured and could walk.

Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, Francis Duffy, says her healing ‘defies medical explanation.’

He says the healing of Marion Carroll can't be medically explained. 

An event was held in Knock yesterday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first ever official healing there.

Ms. Carroll was in a wheelchair when she arrived at the Bascillia in 1989 but was able to walk hours after the blessing
