A midlands paediatrician is advising parents to use their best judgement when it comes to the respiratory illness.

Outbreaks of Strep A in schools could see children that have come into contact with the bug given antibiotics.

Investigations are continuing into whether the death of a young girl in the North Dublin and North East region was linked to the bacterial infection.

The Health Minister says they're monitoring the situation closely.
