The Government has been called upon to prioritise the service by Sinn Féin.
The Fine Gael leader says delivering more refuge beds is a priority for the Government.
It follows calls from Longford Westmeath Sinn Féin TD Sorca Clarke for the coalition to assist Esker House in Athlone in sourcing a site for a new purpose-built refuge centre.
It provided emergency accommodation to 28 women and 41 children, and received requests from 267 people last year.
