Department Of Integration Confirm 750 Ukranian Refugees To Be Sheltered In Midlands Town

The accommodation is expected to be over a short-term basis.

Some 750 people fleeing the war in Ukraine will be accommodated in a midlands town next week.

Refugees will be sheltered at a site at Stradbally Hall on a phased basis for a short term period.

The Department of Integration say they've signed a contract with Stradbally Hall for six weeks, starting on Tuesday.

The summer months have seen an increase in the number of arrivals from Ukraine, with more than 10,000 people fleeing here since May 1st, an average of around 650 people per week.

It is estimated that up to 500 people could continue to arrive over the next weeks from the conflict zone.

The State say that the majority of those fleeing the war will be housed in tented accommodation.
