Midlands Heritage Site Falling Back Into A State Of Disrepair After €170k Spent On It

Two grants were provided to restore the site.

A former midlands jail is falling back into a state of disrepair, despite over €170,000 being spent to rejuvenate it.

Westmeath Fine Gael Councillor Frank McDermott says seeing the Fore Gaol becoming overgrown again is "disappointing," given the money that's been spent on it.

The last prisoners were incarcerated at the site in the 1800s. 

Cllr. McDermott says the grants were used to remove large trees, which are now growing back, and to repair the walls of the building:
