Elderly people living beside a lake in Roscommon are terrified they'll wake up some morning with three feet of water in their homes.

Roscommon County Councillor Laurence Fallon says the flood threat for home-owners and farmers on the banks of Lough Funshinagh has gone beyond a crisis - with flood defences on the verge of failing.

He says the lake has more than doubled in size over the past 7 years... while it's elderly neighbours watch it inch ever closer to their homes:
