An emergency aqua-dam is being deployed at the Park, Athlone as a preventative measure.

Locals from areas along the River Shannon are calling for action to prevent flooding.

Met Eireann say up to 25 millimetres of rain is expected to fall as it's issued a status yellow rainfall warning for 20 counties from 8 o'clock tonight. 

Shannon Harbour & Lusmagh in Co. Offaly are already experiencing some floods from previous rainfall.
