Farmers planted nearly a quarter of trees planted in Ireland last year.
The Green Party says midlands farmers can look forward to increased and extended payments for farming trees in the future.
It comes as a CSO report on afforestation has revealed that the total number of hectares covered by forest in Offaly and Laois has more than doubled from 2021 to 2022.
The afforestation figure for Westmeath dropped from 49 to 34 hectares, while in Offaly it jumped from 25 to 53, and in Laois from 5 to 26.
23% of trees planted in Ireland last year were by farmers.
