Former Midlands Army Barracks Could Be Better-Utilised For Housing Refugees

That's according to a former soldier.

A former midlands soldier believes the accommodation blocks in Columb Barracks should be used instead of tents to house refugees. 

Security and Defence Analyst Declan Power, who served at the Westmeath facility, says he's surprised the Government hasn't thought to use it before now. 

He says it was designed to have capacity to house up to 1,000 personnel. 

The Mullingar man believes the accommodation should still be fit for purpose, despite it now being used in over a decade:
