The hospice board is welcoming the proposals from the HSE.
The future of the South Westmeath Hospice will be discussed at a meeting with the HSE this morning.
Secretary of the hospice's board, Joe Whelan, says the Health Service is proposing the four-bed palliative care unit be incorporated into a newly-built 50-bed Community Nursing Unit in Clonbrusk in Athlone.
At a recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum, the HSE said it would meet with the hospice board to discuss the proposals.
Mr. Whelan says they're glad to see the HSE is engaging with the issue, and they hope to present their own ideas at this morning's meeting:
