GMI Chairperson Says Government Horticulture Plan Will Cripple Peat Industry

John Neenan says all recommendations from the Peat Working Group were ignored.

The government's decision to ignore recommendations from the Peat Working Group will cripple the Irish horticulture industry. 

That's according to John Neenan of Growing Media Ireland, who says the new horticultural action plan ignores the panel's advice around the phased reduction of peat production by 2035 and a single consent model for licencing. 

He says the increase in import costs and delays will drive small to medium sized producers into extinction.
