Sinn Féin says increased fuel and living-alone allowances are needed to help older people cope with the rising cost of living

Kildare-South TD Patricia Ryan says there was a total 35 price hikes in energy bills last year, resulting in a 7% cost increase in some areas.

It comes as a new Social Justice Ireland report estimates an extra 300,000 people have been forced into poverty in the past year.

The party's spokesperson for older people says inflation is also preventing low income workers from getting on the property ladder:
