A junior government minister is calling for a review into the availability of abortion services in the midlands.

The Health Minister has launched a new review into Ireland's abortion laws, with members of the public and service users and providers to be consulted.

Mullingar is the only hospital in the midlands currently offering terminations of pregnancy, while just over half of Ireland's 19 hospitals provide the service. 

In 2020, 14 people from Laois, 28 from Offaly and 19 from Westmeath contacted the HSE My Options Helpline.
