Laois Councillor Calling For Levy To Protect Public From Derelict Buildings

He feels the onus is on owners, not community groups.

A Laois councillor is calling for a levy on derelict buildings in order to maintain their safety to the public. 

Fine Gael's John King believes responsibility shouldn't be left to the local community groups, like the Tidy Towns Committee.

He's highlighting the issue in Borris in Ossory, where broken glass is falling from the buildings to the surrounding footpaths.

Councillor King says owners should be looking after maintenance, and is calling for a 3 per cent charge to be imposed:
