A Laois councillor wants the local authority to begin the process of varying the Laois County Development Plan to review the county's industrial, business and enterprise-zoned lands.
It recently increased residential zoning capacity from land for approximately 5,500 homes to around 8,500 homes.
Councillor James Kelly believes an expression of interest process to identify landowners willing to zone land for businesses, will allow the council to rezone suitable locations.
He says the aim is to ensure Laois has enough serviced industrial land to support economic growth, attract investment and deliver on the county's enterprise and tourism strategies:
