Councillor Aisling Moran says the figures are damning for Laois.
Laois is significantly underrepresented in jobs supported by the Industrial Development Authority.
That is according to independent councillor Aisling Moran who is highlighting unfavourable statistics for the midland's counties, with figures for county Laois in a particularly vulnerable place.
According to the councillor, Offaly, Laois, and Westmeath account for a significantly small share of such employment.
IDA jobs refer to positions generated when multinational corporations establish or expand operations in Ireland with the agency's backing.
This can offer great opportunity and a boost to local economies as it generates a higher level of business and local spending.
Laois currently holds the lowest figure of IDA employment throughout the nation.
According to Cllr Moran the O'Moore county sits at just 0.05% of employment supported by the agency as Laois residents take up roughly 156 out of 300,000 of IDA jobs available.
This in turn has a knock-on effect on the number of businesses operating in the county and the number of people attracted to Laois.
Mrs. Moran raised this issue in the Laois County chamber as many local people are commuting to work each day to areas such as Dublin.
If these figures were to improve, there is an opportunity to create employment closer to home for some people.
