Laois Teacher With Autism Calls For Reform Of Leaving Cert Format

Colm McNamee says current format is impractical.

The Leaving Certificate, in its current form, is not fit for purpose. 

That's according to Laois teacher Colm McNamee, who says the exam format rewards memory retention instead of developing real life skills such as critical thinking, researching and analytics.

The Mountrath man, who has autism and ADHD, works with tech multi-national Salesforce to develop accessible working systems. 

He says the curriculum should prepare students for entering the workforce:
