The road remains closed
A man in his 60's has died following a car crash in Laois.
It occurred around 2 o'clock this afternoon on Coote Street in Portlaoise, between the Market Square roundabout and the Harpur's Lane junction.
The collision involved two cars, the driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body of the man has since been moved to Portlaoise Mortuary and a post mortem will be conducted at a later date.
There were no other injuries.
The road is currently closed and Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene.
Local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at this time to make this footage available to Gardaí.
