An Post had previously been sharing the building.
A midlands Civil Defence finally has a permanent home, of its own, after a long campaign.
Laois Civil Defence, now located in Kea Lew Business Park, had been sharing their premises with the former occupier, An Post for the last number of months.
That issue has been remedied, and An Post has fully vacated the building.
Training, planning, and the servicing of gear is all being done at the Portlaoise site now, and it's set to act as a count centre in the forthcoming Local and European elections.
Laois County Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley says the volunteers of the Civil Defence do "exceptionally fantastic work" and they deserve a "proper facility".
