Millions of euro are being spent across the country with few prosecutions to show for it.
Westmeath County Council spent close to half a million euro clearing up after illegal dumping last year.
That's according to the Irish Farmers Journal, which shows rural roads, beauty spots and forestry entrances are being destroyed with waste such as hazardous material including asbestos, needles and industrial waste.
€470,640 has been spent tackling the issue in Westmeath in 2025 with zero prosecutions or fines.
The figure is €87,341 in Offaly with seven prosecutions, and €77,765 in Laois with one prosecution,
Kildare has the highest clean up costs of over half a million euro.
Investigative Journalist Jacqueline Hogge, with Irish Country Living, at the Irish Farmers Journal says prosecutions for dumping illegally is was low last year.
