Pfizer says its new anti-viral Covid-19 pill is 89% effective in preventing severe illness and death from the virus.

Over 1,200 people took part in the clinical trial and no one who received the Pfizer treatment died, compared with 12 deaths among placebo recipients.

The medicine was taken every 12 hours for five days once participants started to experience early symptoms of covid.
