Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred yesterday evening.
A motorcyclist has died following a road crash in Westmeath.
The collision with a car happened near Tubberclair outside Athlone yesterday evening.
Emergency services were alerted to a crash on the N55 at Lissoy near Tubberclair at about 5.50 yesterday evening.
The motorcyclist - a man in his 50s - was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital for a post-mortem exam.
No other injuries were reported.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will begin examining the scene this morning, with a diversion in place on the N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to Gardaí.
