A potential site for a new domestic abuse refuge in Laois has been identified.
A review by Tusla earlier this year listed Laois as a priority for service provision, as one of nine counties with no emergency accommodation for victims.
At the latest meeting of Laois Joint Policing Committee, CEO of Laois County Council John Mulholland confirmed that a site in Portlaoise is under investigation.
Independent councillor James Kelly is anxious the project is progressed as soon as possible, to ensure victims don't have to leave the county to seek refuge:
