It's expected to take 6-8 months.
The terms of reference for a review into RTÉ have been agreed by Cabinet.
Earlier, Media Minister Catherine Martin said the scope of the external review will be "broad" and is expected to take six to eight months.
It's believed ministers have also appointed a "qualified person" to analyse RTÉ's accounts for previous years using powers under the Broadcasting Act.
Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and Laois Offaly TD, Brian Stanley, hopes this review will enable "radical surgery" within the organisation:
