Joe Drennan was killed in October 2023 in Limerick.
The man who killed a Laois student in a hit and run has had his sentence increased by five years.
21 year old Kieran Fogarty of Hyde Park in Limerick originally received a six and a half year sentence for dangerous driving leading to the death of Mountrath's Joe Drennan in October 2023.
However, he was given eight years for a fire arms offence that was to serve concurrently with the sentence for killing Mr Drennan.
The decision comes after an appeal from the Director of Public Prosecutions, and a long protest campaign involving Joe Drennan's family and communities in Laois, and Limerick where he was studying.
