‘A Footbridge to the Pathway’ initiative is being delivered in Portlaoise Prison.
A midlands university is to receive over €140,000 in funding to further broaden access to higher education for people in custody.
The ‘A Footbridge to the Pathway’ initiative in delivered the inaugural year of an accredited higher education programme in Community Development and Leadership within Portlaoise Prison.
The pilot year helped address a significant gap in access to higher education within the prison system by delivering flexible, accredited, face-to-face learning opportunities directly within the custodial environment.
