The announcement was made this afternoon in Athlone.
Simon Harris has been named as the new leader of Fine Gael.
The Higher Education Minister was the only nomination to replace Leo Varadkar.
He becomes the 12th leader of Fine Gael, and will become the youngest ever Taoiseach on April 9th.
Addressing Fine Gael delegates in Athlone, he vowed to be a leader for the common good of the country.
He outlined Fine Gael's stance on many issues, such as condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Minister Harris also said that Fine Gael is the party of law and order.
