"Too Many Young People" In Laois Offaly Caught Up In Money Muling - Gardaí

Officers in the area are warning people of the consequences of acting as a money mule.

Gardaí say they're seeing too many young people getting caught up in 'money muling' in Laois and Offaly.

Newcomers to the country, as well as the unemployed, students and people in economic distress are the most susceptible to the crime, according to officers in the area.

They also say men are more likely to be targeted.

Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Graham Kavanagh, says people can be pulled in by seemingly legitimate job adverts, online posts, and social media.

He's also warning the public anyone acting as a money mule, even if unwittingly so, can face a prison sentence, fine or community service.
