A midlands TD wants a feasibility study to be the first of many steps in development of the town.
A new education and training facility could be developed in Westmeath.
The HSE has granted approval for a feasibility study to be conducted at St. Peter's Hospital in Castlepollard .
The site has been under utilised for years.
Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy says it's welcome news:
"The St Peter’s Hospital complex is a prominent site locally that has enormous potential.
Repurposing it as an educational and training facility is something that I, strongly support.
The feasibility study is just an initial step, however, it means that there is an opportunity for the exploration of a pathway towards the further development of Castlepollard Community College and for improved educational and training facilities.
We look forward to feeding into the feasibility study. Where we want to get to, is for St Peter's to be enabled to offer apprenticeships, traineeships and Just Transition courses that would benefit people to gain employment or start their own businesses and strengthen the local economy."
