It's Councillor Hogan's first run since missing out on a Dail seat in 2016.
Westmeath Councillor Paul Hogan is set to run in the forthcoming general election for the Independent Ireland party.
The Athlone rep is returning to the national stage for the first time since missing out on a Dail seat after a marathon count involving himself, Fine Gael's James Bannon, and Labour's Willie Penrose in 2016.
The former Sinn fein candidate was eventually defeated by the Labour rep in the Longford-Westmeath constituency.
Mr Hogan was re-elected to Westmeath County Council in June, winning the fifth and final seat on the tenth count after initially claiming just over 7 per cent of the available first preference votes.
