Westmeath officialy has the best Age Friendly Programme in the country.
The county's programme was the headline winner at the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards at the Limerick Strand Hotel yesterday.
It's being recognised for its strong community engagement, innovation and consistent delivery for older people.
The programme has an Older People’s Council membership of more than 700, a strong agenda of activity, as well as flagship health and wellbeing initiatives.
Meanwhile the Age Friendly Transport Award went to TFI Local Link Laois Offaly.
The service is being commended for providing accessible public transport across rural communities, and for connecting people with healthcare, shops, and services.
