11 New Roles Added To Critical Skills Occupations List

More young people are also considering a career in finance, and returns of unwanted Christmas presents are expected to surge today.

Shortages of mechanics, therapists and construction workers should soon begin to ease. 

The professions have now been added to the employment permit system, which allows employers to hire in staff from outside the EU. 

In all 11 new roles have been added to the Critical Skills Occupations List, the largest-ever expansion of the system. 

CEO of the Employment Recruitment Federation Geraldine King says the changes will also see higher wages for those with work permits.

More and more young people are considering a career in finance.

An Amárach survey shows 54 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24 are opting for the sector.

Employment in financial services now provides an average annual salary of just over 67,000 Euro.

Returns of unwanted Christmas presents are expected to surge today.

It's so-called Takeback Tuesday, which could see a 52 percent increase in the number of people sending items back than the typical day in December.

Royal Mail's also found 81 percent of shoppers are less likely to use a retailer that charges for returns.
