Both Athlone Boat Club members representing Ireland at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Bulgaria this week will be back in action tomorrow.
First to take to the water was Donagh Claffey as part of the Quadruple Sculls team in the third heat of their event.
Claffey and his crewmates went through the heat in a steady pace to finish 2nd behind the Czech Republic in a time of 6.05.44, sending them into a repechage round on Thursday.
The Czech crew advance straight to a semi-final race.
Ireland did well to hold off the challenge of Serbia, who finished under a second behind.
Twelve minutes later his club-mate Martin O'Grady was out in the heats of the Double Sculls.
The Irish boat finished in 3rd place in their opening race behind Poland and Greece in a time of 6.36.01, also sending them into tomorrow's reprechage.
The top two boats qualified directly for the semi-finals.
