An interim manager will take charge for the remainder of the season.
Adrian Carberry has left Athlone Town.
The former player has been in charge since December 2019, guiding the club to the semi-finals of the FAI Cup last year.
The Town began the 2021 campaign strongly securing four wins and a draw in their opening five games and looked primed for a tilt at promotion.
However since then their form hasn't made for great reading, two wins and two draws in fourteen league games to accompany an FAI Cup exit at the hands of then faltering Waterford.
It came to a head in the UCD Bowl last weekend during a 6-0 defeat to the students.
This morning Athlone Town released a statement this morning announcing Carberry's departure, citing a meeting between both sides on Monday where it was mutually agreed that the best course of action would be for 'somebody else to take over the reins, for the remainder of the 2021 season.'
The process is now underway to find a replacement.

Statement on Behalf of Athlone Town AFC.
The board of Athlone Town AFC can today (Tuesday August 17th) confirm that it is seeking a new head coach for its men's senior team following Adrian Carberry's departure from the role.
The decision that Adrian should step down from the role he has held since December 2019 was by mutual agreement.
His departure comes following a meeting between the parties on Monday night to discuss the team's recent league form and on-field performances.
It was agreed that the best option for the team at this point in time was for somebody else to take over the reins, for the remainder of the 2021 season.
ATAFC would like to put on the record its thanks and appreciation to Adrian for all his hard work, especially when it came to trying to coach a team in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic.
The club fully acknowledges Adrian's commitment to the position, and his strong desire to return the club to its glory days.
Unfortunately, from everybody's perspective things did not work out as we all would have liked.
The club wishes Adrian, a former player and a local Athlone man, and his family the very best for the future.
ATAFC will now begin its search for a replacement head coach.
The club will make an announcement in due course regarding Adrian's successor.
