Longford missed a huge opportunity to equalise when Dean Williams' penalty was saved by Brendan Clarke, with Town also missing a second-half penalty through Peter Grogan.
Longford eventually pulled one back in the 77th minute through substitute Stefan Ugbesia, but Town held on to secure all three points.
They now turn their attention to the clash with Waterford in the FAI Cup this weekend.
