Athlone Town In The Hat For Today's FAI Cup Draw

The midlanders received a bye to this stage back in July.

Athlone Town will be watching today's FAI Cup draw with eagle eyes around mid-day. 

Adrian Carberry's young side have endured a mixed set of performances after the restart but will view the cup as a chance to get some experience against a premier division opponent. 

Derry City, Cabinteely, Shelbourne, Bray Wanderers, Sligo Rovers, Wexford FC, Shamrock Rovers, UCD, Galway United, Cobh Ramblers, Bohemians, Drogheda Dundalk, Finn Harps and Cork City are all possible opponents. 

Cork City booked their place in the second round of the FAI Cup in the most dramatic fashion tonight. 

A goal from Ricardo Dinanga in added time of extra-time gave Neale Fenn’s side a 1-nil win at home to Longford. 

Joining Cork in the hat for round two are Dundalk. 

An early Sean Hoare goal gave Vinny Perth’s side a 1-nil win over Waterford at Oriel Park. 

Meanwhile, doubt has been cast on Dundalk’s Champions League qualifier with Celje. 

The Premier Division champions are due to travel to Hungary next week to face their Slovenian counterparts.
