Athlone Town Looking To Close In On Third Place This Weekend

Dario Castelo's side travel to Longford in a midlands clash.

Athlone Town will be looking to close the gap on Cobh Ramblers in the league standings when they take on Longford Town this weekend.

The midlanders travel to Strokestown Road on Saturday for the midlands clash, and are currently four points behind a place in the top three of the SSE Airtricity League First Division table.

A win for Dario Castelo's side will mean two in a row, off the back of a dominant 4-1 victory over the team that sit above them in the standings.

Longford Town on the other hand will be looking to climb to fifth with a win over Athlone.

Kick off in Strokestown is at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, two Athlone Town players were included in the League of Ireland First Division's "Team of the Week."

Valerii Dolia's two goals against Cobh Ramblers bagged him a spot in the front three, while Noah Van Geenen has earned a place in the Centre Back position, after knocking in his own strike in the same game.
