The Offaly golfer was well positioned after 8 holes yesterday.

Shane Lowry has plenty work to do if he's to have a good weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The Clara golfer recovered from an early bogey to rattle off three birdies over six holes to move back in to contention.

However dropped shots on 9, 11, and 13 dropped Lowry off the leaderboard.

He gets his second round underway just before one O'clock this afternoon.

Rory McIlroy carded a solid 3 under par round of 69 in North Carolina.

He lies three shots behind leader Tommy Fleetwood of England.

Seamus Power is 2 under par.

On the European Tour, Matthieu Pavon of France leads on 9 under par on day 2 of the Italian Open.

Of the Irish, Tom McKibbin is 1 under par, John Murphy is even par and Gary Hurley is 3 over.
