Both Athlone Teams Go Down In Latest Preseason Fixtures

Each team was beaten 3-1.

A first goal in black and blue for Kurtis Byrne was not enough to give Adrian Carberry a first win of the new season. 

The new look midlanders went down 3-1 to Premier Division outfit Finn Harps at Lissywoolen this afternoon. 

It was level at the break as Byrne found the net on 30 minutes to cancel out an Ethan Boyle opener for the visitors. 

The second half saw the Donegal outfit find the net twice without reply, an own goal on 54 minutes followed up by a Shane McEleny strike 10 minutes later. 

Next up for Athlone is a trip to face Sligo Rovers on Monday. 

Meanwhile this morning Tommy Hewitt took his Women's National League side to face Galway. 

They would also ultimately lose by thee goals to one and will face their conquerers again next Wednesday. 

A youthful side took the field at it was another improved performance by all accounts as they continue to build towards their new season.
