Bucc's lose out to Old Crescent
Buccaneers Notes
Although dominating both territory and possession Buccaneers again came up short when going down 12-10 to Old Crescent in their Energia All-Ireland League Division 2A game played at Dubarry Park on Saturday. When the sides met at Rosbrien just before Christmas, it proved another low scoring encounter and Buccs will rue missed opportunities on both occasions. For their part the Limerick club can thank a sustained and unflinching defensive effort by their standard bearers allayed to a slice or two of good fortune for this victory which keeps them firmly in the top four play-off hunt.
A losing bonus point was little consolation for Buccaneers as they are now beginning to lose touch with the top half of the league leaderboard. Christian Maulaulau’s endeavours earned him the Audi Athlone Man of the Match award and he received solid support in the pack from Kenny and Masterson. Corbett carried most threat in the home backline where Saul O’Carroll made another notable contribution.

Buccaneerr's RFC’S third Business Netwoking Lunch takes place in Athlone’s Sheraton Hotel on Friday, February 7th. Three exciting and interesting guest speakers have been lined up for the event, which has proved hugely popular to date. Feargal O’Rourke, Anne-Marie Taylor and Des Fitzgerald are the keynote speakers.
Feargal O’Rourke is Managing Partner of PwC in Ireland. He is a chartered accountant and tax expert. The Athlonian is son of renowned politician Mary O’Rourke and the late Enda, who for many years was honorary Secretary of Athlone RFC (the precursor of Buccaneers).
The rugby connection continues with Des Fitzgerald who was capped as a prop 34 times for Ireland for whom his son Luke also played. Current Chief Executive at EBS, Des has many sporting interests and accomplishments.
Anne-Marie Taylor’s background is in management consultancy and she is passionate about women advancing in business. She is on the board of the Public Appointments Service and the Irish Hospice Foundation.
