Championship Round Up: Westmeath Footballers Blow Leinster Championship Wide Open

The Lake County won in both codes yesterday.

It was a mixed weekend for midlands county's in the provincial championships. 

Westmeath pulled off a big win against neighbours Meath in the Leinster Football Championship yesterday. 

Mark McHugh's side sealed a semi-final place thanks to a 4-18 to 0-25 points win in O'Connor Park yesterday. 

They will face Kildare in the final four after they saw off Laois on a final scoreline of 2-20 to 2-15. 

Laois will now compete in the Tailteann Cup. 

Elsewhere, Offaly got their first point of the season in the Leinster Hurling Championship. 

The Faithful played out an entertaining 4-22 to 2-28 draw at home to Dublin on Saturday.

In the Joe McDonagh Cup, Westmeath got their campaign up and running with a 1-22 to 0-15 point win away to London. 

Meanwhile, Laois suffered a nine point defeat away to Carlow, as Tommy Fitzgerald's side were beaten 4-17 to 1-17.
