Comprehensive Mayo Win Not Enough For Westmeath

Kerry's victory over Meath ensured their promotion from Division Two.

Westmeath missed out on promotion back to Division 1B in the National Hurling League despite securing a comfortable win over Mayo on Saturday.

Kevin O'Brien's side were 2-37 to 1-14 winners in McHale Park but will be hurling in Division Two again after Kerry's six point win over Meath meant they join Laois in the league final.

Westmeath had amassed 18 points by the 27th minute, a score Mayo failed to reach by full time.

Goals in the second half came courtesy of a Darragh McCormack penalty and Peter Clarke for Westmeath, after Mayo full-forward Joseph Burke raised the first green flag for Mayo.

O'Brien's hurlers are next in action in the Joe McDonagh Cup where they'll face an away day in London.
