The Town's 2023 Cup season is over for another year.
Athlone Town's hopes of a FAI Cup run were ended in the first round at the hands of Derry City.
The midlander's suffered a 3-0 defeat away to the Premier Division side in Brandywell Stadium on Sunday.
The home side led 1-0 thanks to a 23rd minute penalty from Will Patching, and Dario Castelo's side were still in the game up until the 90th minute.
However, two injury time strikes from Brandon Kavanagh and Michael Duffy secured the result for Ruadhri Higgins' men.
Dario Castelo's team are next in action at home to Waterford on Friday night in the League of Ireland First Division.
