€201k - Athlone Town Enjoy Massive European Windfall

The league and cup champions had famous victories over the champions of Croatia, Wales and Serbia.

Athlone Town landed over €200,000 in European competition prize money this year.

The 42 is reporting the midlanders received €40,000 for hosting the round one mini-tournament in the women's Champions League, and €15,000 for finishing first in that round.

After becoming the first League of Ireland team since Raheny United in 2015 to progress in Europe, the club earned €86,000 in the following round after a series of matches in the Netherlands.

They got a further boost of €60,000 in their Europa Cup qualifier against Glasgow City where they departed European football following a 6-0 aggregate defeat.

Town went on to retain the Women's Premier Division title and complete their first-ever double with FAI Cup success against Bohemians last month.
