FAI Cup Winners Facing Week Off After Peamount Loss

The first round of the cup sees the defending champions getting a week off.

Athlone Town have been knocked off the perch of the Women's Premier Division after a brief stay at the top of the league.

The midlanders lost out to defending league champions Peamount United on Saturday despite taking an early lead in Dublin.

Derbhaile Byrne's first half own goal was cancelled out with 12 minutes remaining by Kerri Letmon, before Karen Duggan poked home the winner from close range after Town failed to defend a corner.

That result sees Shelbourne return to the summit of the standings after they ran out 4-0 winners over DLR Waves.

The FAI Cup first round takes place this weekend with the pick of the ties being Shels against Galway United.

Athlone have a bye into the second round after as defending Cup winners.
