Farrell Names Ireland XV For World Cup Opener

Athlone's Robbie Henshaw will start the game on the bench.

Andy Farrell has named his starting XV for Ireland's opening match at the Rugby World Cup. 

Johathon Sexton returns to captain the side against Romania. 

Hugo Keenan, Keith Earls and James Lowe are named in the back three, with Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki paired in the Ireland midfield.

Joe McCarthy is one of six players in line to compete in their first ever Rugby World Cup match. 

Tadhg Beirne is named at blindside flanker, with Peter O’Mahony at openside and Caelan Doris at number eight.

Ireland's first game gets underway against Romania at Stade de Bordeaux at 2:30pm.
